====== MESS Dumping Project ====== Much like the parent project of [[http://www.mamedev.org/ | MAME]], MESS strives to preserve all game consoles and computers. Consequently, the decision has been made to found the MESS equivalent of the MAME Dumping Project. ===== Responsibilities ===== In order for the project to succeed, we need volunteers for various tasks. Two primary goals will be acquiring undumped systems and games, and then of course dumping them. Please add your name to the lists below if you're able to help. We need people in various regions to help facilitate purchases (such as on eBay), as well as people able to dump various types of hardware and software. ==== Purchasing ==== Adding your name to this list means you're willing to complete a transaction on eBay or similar sites in your part of the world, and then ship the item elsewhere. This will be particularly important when a seller won't ship internationally. You won't necessarily have to pay for it yourself, but should probably have a PayPal account to ease transfer of funds. You might also be asked to watch for wanted items. Ideally, each region should have multiple volunteers in case one is unavailable. * **Germany** -- Duke (ebay: startaq) * **Netherlands** -- Wilbert Pol ([[http://feedback.ebay.nl/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback&userid=zeldzameprutser|zeldzameprutser]]) * **United Kingdom** -- Ian Knowles ([[http://feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=0discord|0discord]]), incog ([[http://feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=incog88|incog88]]) * **United States** -- ranger_lennier, lord_nightmare (ebay: lord_n1ghtmare), ht1848 ==== Dumping ==== Once a wanted system or game is acquired, someone will need to dump it. Add your name here if you have expertise with a particular type of media. Ideally, each media type should have volunteers in multiple regions to divide the work and save on shipping. * **Audio cassettes** -- ranger_lennier (United States); lord_nightmare (United States) * **CD's** -- lord_nightmare (United States)[standard RB-approved CD ripping setup, can rip on 2 computers to show any drive specific audio drift]; f205v (Italy) * **Computer BIOS** -- see ROM chips * **Console BIOS** -- see ROM chips * **DVD's** -- * **Laserdisks** -- * **Magnetic Disks** -- lord_nightmare (United states)[just about any imaginable disk format using catweasel. Cannot yet read 8" disks, drive needs repair.]; * **ROM chips** -- lord_nightmare (United States)[note: only DIP chips, must be socketed or otherwise desoldered; can handle weird chips like 23(C)08, 2708, 2332 or 2364 just fine, all the way through 27c040, and can read old 1702(A)s too. Can easily dump non-serial EEPROMs. PALS and PROMS are doable but not optimal as they MUST be desoldered first and I MUST know the pinout]; f205v (Italy) * **PROM chips** -- f205v (Italy) * **VHS tapes** -- Information on how to dump 2364 mask ROMs can be found [[2364_mask_roms|here]]. Information on how to dump PC Bios using debug can be found [[dump_bios_using_debug|here]]. ==== Naming Convention ==== The general naming format for ROMs is [chip label].[location] for example, 136568.ic23 or chr15.2a or abcdat.45 or 486slc.u19. ===== Systems And Games To Be Dumped ===== ==== In MooglyGuy's possession ==== * Various SGI Indy revisions * Various SGI Indigo revisions * Various SGI Indigo 2 revisions * A revision of the SGI Onyx (R10000-based) boot ROM * Various Sun SPARCStation 5 revisions * Various Sun SPARCStation 10 revisions * Sun Ultra 1 workstation * Sun Ultra 2 workstation * Digital DECstation workstation, unknown model * HP 9000-series 712/80 workstation * Assorted PC peripheral boards * Assorted PC motherboards * Unknown 8086-based barcode scanner * Unknown X-Windows thin client ==== In Incog's possession ==== * [[people:incog|List Here]] ==== In Justin's possession ==== * Laser Compumate 2 kevtris says he's already dumped one of these * Saitek Kasparov Concord [epoxied] * Boris Diplomat [seems to use a microcontroller with built-in ROM] * Fidelity Electronics Bridge Challenger (not the same as the BBC one, it doesn't hook up to a TV) Lord Nightmare has a dump of this * JVC X'eye * Realistic Concertmate 500 sampling keyboard * Elmo's World/Dora the Explorer/Spongebob Squarepants DVD for Fisher Price InteracTV * Bookman MWD-640 Dictionary & Thesaurus [chips are all epoxied so this would probably be more trouble than it's worth; can't even tell what CPU it uses] * GeoSafari [epoxied] * Franklin Elementary Spelling Ace [kevtris has one of these, dunno if it's the same model] * Various handhelds - the newer ones are probably all epoxied; are the old ones CPU-based? * Mattel Classic Football [epoxied] * Mattel Classic Baseball * Entex Arcade Defender * Castle Toy Einstein * Brick Game 9999 in 1 * 576 in 1 2001 Mega Calculator Brick Game * "Pinball" from MGA Entertainment, Inc. * "XBox" Happy Meal toy (some kind of crappy space game) * Various console-in-a-controller things, probably all epoxied * Jakks Pacific Atari stick [epoxied] * Jakks Pacific Namco stick * Jakks Pacific Capcom stick * Activision 20-in-1 gamepad * Some Chinese 30-in-1 Famiclone thing [epoxied but uses a carrier board so should be dumpable] ==== In Lord Nightmare's possession ==== ** KEY: Prefices: F = Fully, M = Mostly, P = Partly, N = Not, ? = Unknown ** KEY: Suffices: D = Dumped, C = Documented, W = Working ** KEY: Suffices cont'd: d = Dumped by someone else, c = Documented by someone else * Pile of various PC motherboards with socketed BIOSes (FD MC ?W) * IBM PC 5150 (MD(Rev3 bios & Rev2 BASIC dumped, KB 8041 not dumped) MC MW(some expansion cards don't work)) * IBM PC AT 5170 (FD PC NW(acid damage, repairable)) * IBM MDA Rev? video card (FD PC ?W) (might be the later rev2 with partial 8-instead-of-16 color cga support) * IBM CGA Rev1? video card (FD PC FW) * IBM EGA Rev1? video card (FD PC ?W) * IBM PS/2 Model 55SX (FD PC FW) * IBM PS/2 Model 30 (FD PC FW) * IBM PS/2 Model 70 x2 (FD PC PW) * C.Itoh CIT-220+ Terminal, DEC VT-220 clone (FD PC FW) * MIOT preliminary datasheet (scanned, slightly different from the one on 6502.org) (FD FC) * Pile of ISA expansion cards of various sorts (PD NC ?W) * Commodore 64 Rev B NTSC 'breadbox' (working) (Fd Fc FW) * Commodore 64 Rev C NTSC 'c64c' (cpu fault (bad PLA?) and 8580 SID missing :( ) (Pd Fc NW) * Commodore 128 NTSC (early 1985 rev with 6581 sid, working) (Fd Pc FW) * Commodore 1541 drive, newer release of the older dark-beige model, DOS roms v2.1 iirc (Fd Fc FW) * Commodore 1571 drive, with medium-sized board (Fd Fc FW) * Mammoth Toys C64 DTV joystick, NTSC (DTV1) model (ND Pc FW) * Mammoth Toys/Radio Shack Hummer DTV (needs hw fixes applied due to design flaws) (ND Pc FW) * DEC VT-320 Terminal (?d F?c FW) * Apple Powerbook 170 (ND NC FW) * Rolodex EL3200 (ND NC NW) [needs new batteries] * Gameboy Game Genie (has been dumped but current dump may be bad, uses odd protection) (Pd Fc FW) * Datel/Madcatz Action Replay/Gameshark GB v4.0 (flashrom based, uses odd protection, easy to brick) (ND NC FW) * Victor 9000/Sirius 1 (MD(i8048 needs dumping) Fc FW) * At&t/Olivetti 6300 (missing monitor/keyboard) (ND Pc ?W) * Epson Equity I+ PC clone (ND ?c ?W) * PCM-12 minicomputer (romless, pdp-8 single chip clone, needs repair) (FD NC PW) * R6502 and VIA datasheets (different from the ones on 6502.org?)
