Hashfile features

The sms and gamegear hashfiles are used to document and enable special emulation features. The special code are entered in the extrainfo field of a hashfile entry.

The following codes are recognized:

  • GGSMS - To enable SMS Compatibility mode in the gamegear drivers
  • CODEMASTERS - To enable special codemasters mapper support
  • KOREAN - To enable special Korean mapper support
  • 93C46 - To enable EEPROM emulation

Thinking about adding support for the actual mapper chips present inside the cartridges to make emulation even more accurate. For instance, currently if an image enables SRAM we just assume that there is SRAM present on the cartridge. It would be nicer if the fact that SRAM is present is determined by the actual mapper information from the hashfile.

There is a good chance that the game lists below are incomplete, an extensive test still needs to be performed.

GGSMS

This enables the SMS Compatibility mode in the gamegear emulation. In this mode the SMS screen is scaled to be displayed on the 160×144 gamegear screen.

The following gamegear games depend on this setting:

  • The Excellent Dizzy Collection
  • Fantastic Dizzy
  • Jang Pung II
  • Mickey Mouse - Castle of Illusion
  • Olympic Gold
  • Out Run Europa
  • Rastan Saga
  • Taito Chase H.Q.
  • WWF Wrestlemania Steel Cage Challenge
  • Predator 2
  • Prince of Persia
  • R.C. Grand Prix
  • Super Kick Off

CODEMASTERS

This enables the Codemasters mapper. This mapper responds to different address than the standard Sega mappers. By default cartridge bank 0, 1, and 0 are enabled.

The following sms games depend on this setting:

  • Cosmic Spacehead
  • Dinobasher
  • The Excellent Dizzy Collection
  • Fantastic Dizzy
  • Micro Machines

The following gamegear games depend on this setting:

  • Cosmic Spacehead
  • Micro Machines
  • Dropzone
  • Ernie Els Golf (this also needs an additional on-cart 64KB RAM emulated)
  • Pete Sampras Tennis
  • S.S. Lucifer
  • Micro Machines 2 - Turbo Tournament

KOREAN

This enables the mapper used by a couple of Korean games. This mapper responds to different address than the standard Sega mappers. These games also lack the standard Sega identification string and a checksum so they only work on Japanese sms models.

The following sms games depend on this setting:

  • Dodgeball King / Dallyeora Pigu-Wang
  • Sangokushi 3

93C46

This enables the emulation of a 93C46 EEPROM chip. A couple of (baseball) games used this chip to store data.

The following gamegear games depend on this setting:

  • Majors Pro Baseball
  • Nomo's World Series Baseball
  • Pro Yakyuu GG League
  • World Series Baseball
  • World Series Baseball '95

8KB_CART_RAM

This enables 8KB on cartridge work RAM. This is used in The Castle (SG-1000).
